Can I request a donation certificate or tax receipt?
Steunactie cannot issue official tax receipts or tax deduction certificates. However, after making a donation, you will automatically receive a transaction confirmation from our platform.
Below is an explanation of how it works and how you can request an official tax receipt.
Important: Are donations to personal or private causes tax-deductible?
No. Donations made to personal causes (such as an individual, a family, a private initiative, or a personal friend) are considered personal gifts and are not tax-deductible.
Tax authorities only allow tax deductions for gifts made to officially recognized non-profit organizations or charities (such as ANBI-registered organizations in the Netherlands or recognized institutions in Belgium).Why doesn't Steunactie issue tax receipts?
When you donate, your contribution goes directly to the fundraiser (campaign organizer). Steunactie merely acts as the facilitating payment platform and is not a registered charity or tax-authorized entity itself.
How can I obtain an official tax receipt?
Only the organization receiving your donation can determine if the gift is tax-deductible and issue an official tax certificate (for example, a recognized ANBI status in the Netherlands or an authorized organization in Belgium).
How to request a certificate:
- Go to the campaign page on Steunactie.
- Click the contact button located next to the organizer's name.
- Contact the campaign organizer directly to request your tax receipt.
What proof will I receive from Steunactie?
For every donation, we automatically send a thank-you email containing a donation confirmation.
- Donated non-anonymously? You will receive this email directly at the address provided during donation. This serves as digital proof that the transaction was processed through our platform.
- Donated anonymously? In this case, we do not have your email address and cannot send an automated confirmation. You can still contact the campaign organizer via the contact button on the campaign page to manually confirm your donation.
Is my donation tax-deductible?
This depends on the tax status of the organization running the campaign and the tax laws in your country:
